Making an origami lamp

From a sheet to a lamp
Origami lamps take shape by folding paper into a three-dimensional form. The structure develops gradually as you repeat and bring the folds together. It takes attention and is more enjoyable when you have time to practise. We guide you through the process in the workshop, so you don’t need to know origami before you start.
What you’ll practise
You’ll practise making clear folds, working with repetition and assembling the piece. Some steps make sense straight away; others become clearer as you handle the paper. Ask a question, check a fold or try it again. Each session describes the design we’ll make and the materials included.
Choosing colour
The paper’s colour and the lamp’s shape affect how it feels in a room. Think about where you might place it, or wait until you see the materials. Light picks out the folds and the different surfaces. Seeing the finished piece illuminated is one of the most satisfying moments of the process.
Other things to make with paper
Origami isn’t limited to lamps. It can be part of a clock or another decorative piece. Slowly Atelier offers different designs depending on the date and the group. For a private experience, we can discuss which format fits your occasion, available time and space, then agree it before booking.
After the workshop
You take home your piece with guidance on using and caring for it. For a lamp, follow the lighting and assembly instructions provided, and check the event details for included components. If you’d like to make one, look at the upcoming dates. Book for yourself, bring a friend or arrange a workshop for your group.
